Catwalk to Cover: A Front Row Seat

Plywood: Material, Process, Form
This exhibition features examples from MoMA’s collection of modern designs that take advantage of the formal and aesthetic possibilities offered by plywood, from around 1930 through the 1950s. Archival photographs illuminate the process of design and manufacture in plywood. Iconic furniture by Alvar Aalto, Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen and Arne Jacobsen appear alongside organic platters by Tapio Wirkkala (1951), Sori Yanagi’s Butterfly Stool (1956), an architectural model for a prefabricated house by Marcel Breuer (1943), and experimental designs for plywood in the aeronautics industry.

Terence Conran: The Way We Live Now

Coexistence
Coexistence are hosting an exhibition by the British furniture brand MARK. Titled INPUT, it is a collaboration with the Danish textiles company Kvadrat and will show what goes into a piece of high-quality contract furniture in four areas: Design, Skills, Materials and Teamwork.
The event will also see the launch of a new design for MARK by Tomoko Azumi, The Verso chair. Work by Dylan Freeth, Sam Johnson and Gala Wright will also feature in a range of exhibits using Kvadrat fabrics.

Under the Sea
Like many people, artists and designers are fascinated by the shapes and forms found in ocean plants and animals. The works on display here are all inspired by giants of the deep, jewel-like fishes and other weird and wonderful marine life. Under the Sea includes natural history specimens and historic art from Sheffield’s collections alongside contemporary works of art, craft and design.

Christian Louboutin

Swarm Study/III
The V&A has unveiled Swarm Study/III, a new interactive light installation by Random International. The piece overhangs the staircase that adjoins the Architecture and Ceramics galleries, and will be on display for the next three years. Controlled by a complex algorithm, the installation translates collective behavioural patterns found in nature into moving light.
